Primary School Sports Funding
What is the Sports Funding?
Sports Funding was introduced by the Government in September 2013. It was designed to give additional money to support the development of Physical Education in schools and build an 'Olympic Legacy'. The aim of this extra funding is to impact positively on pupils' lifestyles and physical wellbeing.
Sports Funding is allocated to schools based on the number of children on roll (in Years 1-6), plus an additional flat rate. It has been indicated that schools will receive this funding for the foreseeable future.
The funding has been allocated for academic years rather than financial years.
The aim of promoting PE and School Sport is to:
-
increase participation in physical activity
-
make physical activities inclusive to all
-
develop pupils’ lifelong love of sport and healthy wellbeing
-
develop self-esteem and confidence
-
promote positive behaviours and raise attainment
-
train staff to develop expertise in the teaching of PE and School Sport.
How has the money been spent?
Withycombe Raleigh Primary School is part of the Exmouth Learning Community - our local schools work together to plan events and share best practice for the benefit of the children. As such we are able to participate in sporting festivals and competitions held throughout the year.
These include: tag rugby, netball, football, cricket, athletics, swimming galas, multi-skills and dance.
As well as participating in ELC tournaments and activities, Withycombe Raleigh Primary School has a long tradition of organising and hosting sports festivals and inviting other schools in the local area to participate. Included in these are football, and athletics tournaments at a range of levels.
Download the document: Evidencing the Impact of Primary PE and Sports Premium 2017-18 and for Evidence for 2018-2019 for more about how we spend the money.
The school is using this funding to:
-
pay the cost of the subscription to the Exmouth Learning Community sports support
-
contribute to the cost of a mini-bus for transporting our pupils to festivals, tournaments and inter-school matches
-
expand the range of after school sports clubs by commissioning external expert providers for gymnastics and tennis in both key stages, netball for yr 3-4 & 5-6, and football in yr 3-4
-
contribute towards the hire of local swimming coaches for swimming sessions in the spring term for all pupils in years
-
introduce a wider range of sports and equipment including: volleyball, softball, kayaking, paddle-boarding and indoor athletics
-
train staff across the school in gymnastics, dance and invasion games.
